And then, is retirement by 40 possible?
Said otherwise, is it possible to become FIRE in Switzerland?
Short answer: YES, it is possible.
And that’s exactly what I’m aiming for.

Personally when I reach 40, I'd like to take a hike in Les Diablerets on a Tuesday afternoon while no one else is there. How about you?
Countless negativists will tell you that this isn’t possible; otherwise, they would be financially free too. Or that they also believed in this sweet dream when they were in their twenties… but then gave up after a few months because they lacked the motivation and discipline…
And the funny thing about that is, I was told the exact same thing when I started my FIRE journey in 2013 with the goal to become financially free!!
Never let others crush your dreams
“Oh yeah, I had that same dream too when I was younger… Eventually, you’ll see, after a few weeks, that this is nothing but a myth…”
Bullshit!
Don’t let others impose their own fears onto your life.
And the funniest part about that story is that at the time I’m writing this article (end of 2025), my motivation is even more prominent than it was when I started.
My net worth speaks for itself: it has increased from CHF 48'500 (including the money in my 2nd and 3rd pillars) to a whopping CHF 2'078'258!
We also bought the apartment we live in (yeah, we bought it in Switzerland). We invest all our savings in the stock market. And we even bought three rental properties.
All this to get closer to our goal of not having to work for money after reaching 40.
So yes, dear negativist friends from 2013: I will retire and live financially free in Switzerland once I reach 40!
In what order should I read the blog?
On this blog, we constantly talk about FIRE (as in the “FIRE movement”). This is derived from the English “Financial Independence / Retire Early”.
Furthermore, we talk about money without any taboos: Salary, net worth, investment portfolios, and much more! Unfiltered, always with raw numbers!
The blog has grown immensely over the years.
So I imagine myself discussing with a brand new reader who looked up “FIRE movement in Switzerland” on Google, and then landed on my blog.
And the result is this guided tour page (see above): I recommend you read my site in this specific order to gain the most information out of his time.
Or you can also binge-read if you don’t want to miss a thing:
