My original motivation
It made me smile to go through such an article again. It’s exactly the same type of blogpost (except on Mr Money Mustache’s blog) that inspired me to embark on the FIRE adventure 11 years ago now.
I wish the same inspiration to as many Swiss readers as possible. Because I can assure you that you’ll gain much more than just money: more self-confidence, more options in your life, more happiness from simple things (via frugality). And that’s already during the journey, not just once you’ve FIREd.
ERE: the original blog still exists!
Big surprise! I don’t know why, but in my head, Jacob had stopped his blog a long time ago. So I found myself on a Sunday morning reading his latest posts, while I was writing the lines you’re reading.
It’s good to see long-term bloggers like me, given the number who stop after a few months or years. Hi Jakob, if you’re reading this, and long live your blog! :)
And above all: thank you for writing your book, which inspired bloggers like MMM, who then inspired me to pursue the adventure of financial independence myself (which I’ve been describing since 2014 on this blog).
Note: I realized after reading a few articles, that most are actually “re-post” of 2009 articles. Anyway his website is still live :)
The 4% rule
If you want to know how much you’d need to be able to become financially independent in Switzerland, I’ll give you the link to my article on the famous 4% rule.
And I’m still hard at work on my FI Planner tool (100% made for the Swiss). More news to come in September 2025.
VTSAX replacement for a Swiss investor?
If you’ve just come across my blog, and have no idea what ETF portfolio to build, then don’t panic: you’ll find my stock portfolio explained in detail on this link (for a Swiss Mustachian investor).
